How to become an Electronics Design Engineer / VLSI / Embedded System Designer

Electronic Design Engineers come under the broad category of Electronic Engineering. They conduct research, design, develop, and test electronic components and systems for commercial, industrial, military, or scientific use. Electronic circuits and components in field's of telecommunications, aerospace guidance and propulsion control, acoustics, instruments and controls etc. are designed by electronic design engineers.

• To provide technical support in designing and development of electronic systems.
• To test electronic systems to evaluate functionality and performance.
• To prepare test plans and test procedures for electronic systems.
• To conduct research on the latest technologies and accordingly determine design parameters.
• To develop and test prototypes to determine technical feasibility.
• To perform design projects based on product specifications.
• To prepare design documentations and engineering specifications according to company standards.
• To coordinate with the design team in developing new design ideas and techniques.
• To review and recommend changes to existing designs to improve performance and quality.
• To perform root cause analysis of design issues and develop effective resolutions
   

Engineers must have the critical thinking ability to analyze and evaluate results to choose the  best solution and solve problems. Electrical design engineers must inspect equipment, structures, or materials to identify the cause of errors or other problems or defects, which calls for the problem solving skills. They should have the ability to communicate clearly through documents, recordings and transcriptions. They should be able to make right judgements regarding the quality and compliance with the  laws, regulations, or standards. They must also have the willingness to learn and be up to date with the new knowledge and technologies. Good communication skills help them to work in teams and coordinate the activities and convey relevant information, progress and plan of action.
