What does Healthcare Social Worker do?

• Collect thorough case histories for each client and gain an understanding about the client’s emotional, economic, and social needs
• Gather additional inputs from the doctors, nurses, and the client’s family as well to supplement the case history data
• Conduct relevant assessments as necessary 
• Provide counselling to the patients via individual or group sessions 
• Facilitate the recovery process of the patients 
• Educate the clients and their caregivers regarding the medical issue, the treatment plan, and the expected recovery process so that they may know what is to be expected
• Provide referrals and assist the clients to find and avail resources such as financial assistance, housing, legal aid, education, job opportunities
• Serve as advocates for the rights of the patients
• Maintain accurate records of the patients throughout the treatment and discharge process
• Address the psychosocial effects of the condition in coping with, managing, and recovering from the condition
• Help the clients cope with the economic, and psychological complications resulting from the treatment procedures
