Overview
Immigration officers are entitled to check the eligibility of all individuals entering the country through sea- and airports. They enforce the immigration control in line with the law and have the legal powers to detain or remove illegal entrants. Immigration officers are the ones who provide a student Visa, employment Visa etc. which could be temporary or permanent, Visa extension and permanent citizenship. The immigration officer is often the first point of contact when a non citizen enters the country wherein he asks the basic question of what kind of visa he/she has been permitted and the duration of stay in that particular country.

The working hours for an immigration officer may vary and has an irregular pattern, they might be required to work in shifts at varying times. Travelling might be a part of their job. The most frequent employment lies near the ports and airports. To become an Immigration officer in India one must register themselves in the Ministry of External Affairs, Government of India. The average salary of an immigration officer is 50k to 80k per month depending upon the position and can differ from time to time.
