Course Description

MA in Bengali is a 2 years postgraduate course. The course covers the introduction to Bengali language with emphasis on practical written and spoken Bengali. It also provides the students with knowledge on script and sounds, tenses, verb morphology, noun phrase structure and case, and adverbs, postpositions, adjectives, conjunctions and basic sentence structure. The program syllabus includes topics such as Socio political history of old and medieval Bengali, History of Bengali literature, Old and medieval texts, History of Indian languages, Old medieval history of Bengali literature, Bengali literature, Modern Bengali literature, Bengali poetry texts, Socio political history of Bengali, Linguistics and Bengali language, Literary theory and Bengali essays, World literature, Translation studies, Life and literature, Medieval Bengali language, Life and works of Rabindranath Tagore, Tagore literature, Bengali literature of north east India, Bengali fictional literature, Contemporary Bengali literature, Modern Assamese literature, etc.

Eligibilty

The candidate should have completed Bachelor’s Degree in relevant faculty or discipline from a recognized university with a Minimum of 55% marks in aggregate. Many colleges conduct Entrance exams for admission to this course.
