Course Description

M.Phil in Comparative Religion is a 2 year pre-doctorate degree program that trains students to develop an understanding of different world practices and study ethics in a global religious context. The course focuses largely on Indian Religions and Semitic Religions. In indian religions, the course covers Hinduism, Jainism, Buddhism, Sikhism. In semitic religions, topics like Judaism, Christianity, Islam. Under Judaism, one learns about Jewish Religion as Mirror in the Old Testament – The Special Meaning of History for Judaism, Jewish. People in Diaspora, Jewish Mysticism, etc. Under Christanity, one learns Life and Teachings of Jesus Christ – The development of Christian Church, The main splits in the Christian Church, The Spread of Christianity and Colonialism in Christian Church and under Islam, one learns about The Life of Prophet Muhammad and the basic teachings of Qur’an, the development of Islamic, Empire and the Rise of New Civilization, the contribution of Islam to Fine Arts – The Sufi Tradition.

Eligibilty

The candidate should have Masters degree in relevant stream from a recognized university with an aggregate of 55% marks and also with valid Ph.D. entrance test (e.g. GATE, NET etc) along with the interview.
