M.Tech in Industrial Biotechnology is a Post graduate Engineering specialization course of 2 years that is research oriented. The programme provides a detailed knowledge in the application of biotechnology for industrial purposes, including industrial fermentation and practice of using cells such as microorganisms, or components of cells like enzymes, to generate industrially useful products in sectors such as chemicals, food and feed, detergents, paper and pulp, textiles and biofuels. The course would provide students with a comprehensive knowledge in concepts like Chemical Reaction Engineering, Genetic Engineering, Molecular Biology, Bioinformatics, Bioinformatics, Immunology, Analytical techniques in Biotechnology. Upon completion of this M.Tech course candidates can pursue careers as Scientific Officer, Biological Technologists, Research scientists in Pharma and chemical industries. Starting salaries can be expected to range from 4 to 12 Lakhs per year depending on the job position and type of company. Eligibility criteria is Merit based and candidates are expected to complete BE/BTech with 50% aggregate followed by qualifying the GATE exams. Fees in Universities are somewhere between 60k to 3 Lakhs INR per annum depending on the institutions.
