Course Description

Ph.D. Materials Science is a 3 years doctorate course. The course curriculum covers topics like introduction of Material Science, Diffusion: factors that influence diffusion, Structure of atoms, interatomic bonding, and structures of crystalline, Phase diagram: Equilibrium diagram, phase transformation, Solids imperfections, Metals: Material properties, Failures: Fracture Mechanics, Application and Processing: Metals, alloy, polymer, ceramics, Composites of Metals, Properties: Thermal, optical, Electrical, Magnetic, Corrosion and degradation, Issues of material usage: Economical, Environmental and social, etc. The course takes a theoretical based approach. On completion of the course, one can work as Research scientist, material scientist, semiconductor consultant, technical analysts, project management, etc. Applicants can further go into research or become a lecturer.

Eligibilty

The candidate should have Masters or M.Phil. degree in relevant stream from a recognized university with an aggregate of 55% marks and also with valid Ph.D. entrance test (e.g. GATE, NET etc) along with the interview.
