Course Description

Ph.D Sericulture is a doctoral programme that could be completed within 3-5 Years. It is a research oriented programme intending to impart deep understanding in silkworm rearing and production of silk and farm settings. It is a relevant course considering the economic development contributed by the sector as India is one of the 2 largest silk producers. Areas of research include silk worm rearing, silkworm breeding, genetics, diseases in silkworms, pest control, egg production, silk reeling, mulberry cultivation etc. Ph.D holders have an opportunity to work in the Central Silk Board of Ministry of Textiles and various sericulture state departments. They can also take up farming, reeling and weaving centers themselves or get into research and academia.

Eligibilty

The candidate should have Masters or M.Phil. degree in relevant stream from a recognized university with an aggregate of 55% marks and also with valid Ph.D. entrance test (e.g. GATE, NET etc) along with the interview.
