Who is Computer Information Specialist ?

Computer information specialists manage computer systems for the organisations as well as provide support for individual users. The technicians are involved in implementation, monitoring and maintenance of the network and systems. There are different specialised areas in which a computer information specialist would excel, such as the networking of the organisation, the system management, database management, web administration, information and security management, IT audit etc.

Two types of specialists in computer information are Network Support Specialists who deal with the computer network management for their organisation. They install, troubleshoot and repair systems and provide technical support by maintaining the local and wide area networks and internet. Computer Support Specialists also known as the Help-Desk Technician help individual employees work through computer problems. The problems of the system are diagnosed by enquiry and solutions are provided for them in a step by step manner.

What does Computer Information Specialist do?

  • Installation of the computer systems and connecting them to the organisations network.

  • Large organisations like MNCs might have multiple computer systems to manage.

  • Ensuring the proper programming and functioning of intranet, internet or other forms of data communication technology.

  • Develop customised design for data analysis and technical support for various clients according to their requirements and capacities.

  • Providing constant support for the professionals 

  • Regulating information flow for research and data analysis 

  • Ensuring the security of the data and information and reporting cyber-attacks or unauthorised access

  • Constant monitoring of the computers and repair works of the software, hardware or other equipment when required.

  • If and when a major issue arises. They have to coordinate and connect with the proper technicians specialised in the requirements of the time.

  • Keep on updating with the new technologies and train the employees of the organisation and assist them with appropriate materials regarding the new software, hardware or equipment.

What are the skills, abilities & aptitude needed to become Computer Information Specialist?

The troubleshooting nature of their work requires high analytical and problem-solving skills to identify and rectify the issue. They must possess the ability to listen to the issues reported and communicate the problem to the customer or co-worker, who may not be having an IT background patiently, this requires good communication skills and patience. Customer service skills and strong data analysis skills are also required. The field is constantly evolving, to stay in the computer field the workers are expected to maintain knowledge of current technology and a willingness to do so. Telecommunication skills such as broadcasting, transmission, control and other systems as well as knowledge in engineering and Technology is a feather on the crown.
