Course Description

MA in Performing Arts (Sattriya Dance) is a 2 years postgraduate course. The course curriculum covers topics like Introduction to Indian Dance: Historicity and its Aesthetics; An Overview of Sattriya Dance: A Socio-historical and Aesthetic Perspective; A Basic Introduction of the Bhakti Movement in Assam and various cultural expressions; Life Sketch of Sankaradeva, Introduction to Sattriya Dance, Understanding few critical concepts of Dance ( Nritta, Nritya, Natya, Laya, Tala, Matra, Sattra Institutions of Assam; Definitions of the Dance Numbers; Dance Notation, Field Visit, Assignment. Life and Works of Madhava Deva, Basic idea of few Dance Treatises, etc. The course takes a theoretical and practical based approach. On completion of the course, one can work as Dancer, Musical Theatre Performer, Stage Manager, Director, Choreographer, Music Teacher, Dance Teacher, etc. Applicants can further go into research or become a lecturer.

Eligibilty

The candidate should have completed Bachelor’s Degree in relevant faculty or discipline from a recognized university with a Minimum of 55% marks in aggregate. Many colleges conduct Entrance exams for admission to this course.
