Course Description
The study is concerned with the proper use of blood or blood products in the treatment or prevention of disease. Candidates can discover blood sources, types and donor selection, blood collection and administration techniques, component therapy, transfusion reactions, and red blood cell (RBC) substitutes. The coursework also includes collecting and processing hematopoietic stem cells for blood and bone marrow transplantation as well as the testing necessary for organ transplantation. Candidates learn therapeutic apheresis procedures to treat patients with neurologic, kidney and blood diseases.
