Course Description
M.Tech. Industrial Biotechnology or Master of Technology in Industrial Biotechnology is a two-year postgraduate Biotechnology course. Industrial biotechnology is the application of biotechnology for industrial purposes, including manufacturing, alternative energy and biomaterials. Industrial Biotechnology is also referred to as "White" Biotechnology, plainly symbolizing its role in providing clean and sustainable processes. Industrial Biotechnology uses enzymes and micro-organisms to make products in sectors such as chemistry, food and feed, paper and pulp, textiles and energy. Industrial biotechnology involves working with nature to maximize and optimize existing biochemical pathways that can be used in manufacturing. The industrial biotechnology revolution rides on a series of related developments in three fields of study of detailed information derived from the cell: genomics, proteomics, and bioinformatics. The program also explores areas of related interest such as bioethics, regulatory affairs and the role of intellectual property in biotechnology.
