Course Description
The disciplines of soil mechanics and foundation engineering are related to each other a lot. In fact one complements the other. Knowledge of soil mechanics is very essential to understand the working principles behind foundation engineering. Through this M.Tech program, you will be learning the principles of soil mechanics with relation to applications in a variety of construction activities such as building of retaining walls, bridges, dams, high rises and laying of underground pipelines. In soil mechanics you study the constituents of soil, which is mostly a heterogeneous mixture of clay, sand, gravel, silt, water, air and various other organic matters. You also learn about the applications of soil mechanics with respect to agricultural engineering, hydrology, soil physics and geophysical engineering.
