Course Description
M. Phil Buddhist Studies is a 2 years postgraduate course. The course curriculum covers topics like The Survey of Buddhism, Buddhist Philosophy, Origin of Buddhism, Life of Gautam Buddha, Development of Buddhism, Role of Buddhist Councils in the development of Buddhism, Role of Kings in the development of Buddhism, Emperor Asoka and his contribution to Buddhism, Spread of Buddhism in Central Asia, Spread of Buddhism in East Asia, Spread of Buddhism in SouthEast Asia, Buddhist Art, Architecture & Epigraphy, Introduction to P?li & the Characteristics of P?li, Classification of Buddhavacana, Canonical Literature (P?li Tipi?aka Literature) & Non-Canonical Literature, Mahayana S?tra, Modern Indian Thinkers of Buddhism, etc. The course takes a theoretical based approach. On completion of the course, one can work in educational institutes, colleges, schools, etc. Applicants can further go into research or become a lecturer.
